Chapter 85 Kicked the Cripple's Leg
Chapter 85 Kicked the Cripple's Leg
"Giddy up! Horses, gallop!" she shouted with a grin.
Bai Si'an froze.
In that instant, he felt as if an electric current had surged through his body, his back straightened, and the hand supporting her knees tightened unconsciously.
Lin Weiwei sensed it, and was first taken aback, then her eyes lit up.
Wow, such a big reaction?
As if she had discovered something amusing, she reached out and patted it again.
"Smack."
The sound was exceptionally clear on the quiet dirt road.
Bai Si'an suddenly stopped in his tracks.
His breathing became noticeably heavier, and his ears quickly turned red in the twilight.
Lin Weiwei lay on his back, able to feel the vibrations in his chest and his suddenly accelerated heartbeat.
She suppressed a laugh, deliberately leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "Technician Bai, what's wrong? Can't walk anymore?"
Warm breath sprayed onto his earlobe.
Bai Si'an's Adam's apple bobbed, he took a deep breath, and suddenly released his hands that were supporting her knees.
Lin Weiwei exclaimed "Ah!" and before she could react, he pulled her up from behind.
The world spun around.
By the time she came to her senses, Bai Si'an had already embraced her face to face.
His arms were strong and powerful, encircling her waist and holding her firmly in front of him.
The two were so close that they could see the twilight reflected in each other's eyes and each other's faces.
"Lin Weiwei," Bai Si'an said, his voice low and husky, carrying a familiar sense of danger, "Try teasing me again."
Lin Weiwei's heart skipped a beat, but she still retorted, "I was just kidding, what? You're not going to throw me down, are you?"
As she spoke, she deliberately reached out and poked his chest.
Bai Si'an's eyes darkened, and he lowered his head to kiss her.
He pried open her teeth and went straight in.
Lin Weiwei was caught off guard by his kiss, and her mind went completely blank.
She tried to push him away by placing her hand on his chest, but couldn't muster any strength.
After what seemed like an eternity, Bai Si'an finally released her lips, his forehead pressed against hers, his breathing heavy.
"If you keep causing trouble," he said in a hoarse, wicked voice, "you'll be in for it tonight."
Lin Weiwei's face was burning hot, her lips were still numb, and her competitive spirit rose again.
She kicked him in the leg: "Who's afraid of who! You think you can..."
She stopped abruptly before she could finish speaking.
The foot struck the injured leg of Bai Si'an.
Although the force wasn't strong, she clearly felt his body stiffen slightly.
Lin Weiwei's mind went blank.
It’s over.
She kicked the lame man's leg.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" she apologized hastily, trying to get out of his arms. "I didn't mean to! Does your leg hurt? Let me see..."
Bai Si'an didn't let go; instead, he hugged her even tighter.
"It's nothing," he said, his voice now calm. "It doesn't hurt."
"Really?" Lin Weiwei looked up at him, still uneasy.
In the twilight, his face was somewhat blurred, but his eyes were very clear.
There was no anger, no blame, and even a hint of triumphant smile.
"Really," Bai Si'an said, hoisting her back onto his back. "Let's go home."
Lin Weiwei lay on his back, and the guilt in her heart slowly dissipated.
She seems to be taking his leg injury less and less seriously.
It's not that I don't care, but I feel that it's just a part of him, like any other characteristic, nothing special.
She hugged his neck tightly, pressed her face against his shoulder, and whispered, "Bai Si'an."
"Um."
"It's so kind of you."
Bai Si'an paused for a moment, said nothing, but gently tightened his grip on her knees.
By the time I returned to the courtyard, it was already completely dark.
The kitchen was brightly lit, and the aroma wafted far and wide.
Bai Rongbei was wearing Su Wanwan's floral apron, which was obviously too small and looked a bit comical as it stretched across his body. However, he had a serious expression and was twirling a spatula in his hand, looking like he was commanding a large army.
Su Wanwan was squatting in front of the stove, tending the fire. Her face was flushed red from the firelight, and there were fine beads of sweat on her forehead.
Hearing the noise, she looked up: "Weiwei, you're back? Oh, what's wrong?"
"I twisted my ankle, it's nothing serious." Lin Weiwei slid off Bai Si'an's back and hopped into the kitchen on one foot. "It smells so good! What are you making?"
"The braised pork is almost ready, the fish is stewing, and the ribs will be done soon," Su Wanwan said, getting up to help her. "Sit here and don't move around."
Lin Weiwei sat down on a small stool by the kitchen door, watching the two people busy inside.
Bai Rongbei was ladling the stewed ribs into a large enamel basin. The rich, dark red broth and the trembling pieces of meat looked incredibly tempting.
Su Wanwan handed over the plate from the side, her movements natural.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" Lin Weiwei asked.
"No need, just wait to eat." Bai Rongbei didn't even look up. "Bai Si'an, go wipe the tables in the yard and set out the chairs."
"Okay," Bai Si'an replied, turning around to get busy.
Lin Weiwei wanted to help, but Su Wanwan stopped her, saying, "You should rest. Don't move around if you've sprained your ankle."
"I'm really fine..." Lin Weiwei mumbled, but still sat obediently.
Soon, Zhao Dayong and his family arrived first.
Zhao Dayong's wife carried a bowl of prepared cold dishes: "Commander Bai, Comrade Su, congratulations! I brought some cold dishes to add some flavor!"
"Thank you, sister-in-law." Su Wanwan took the basin. "Sit down, it'll be ready soon."
Then Chen Jianjun and Liu Aiguo arrived, carrying two bottles of baijiu (Chinese liquor): "Commander Bai, we have to have a drink today!"
Aunt Pang, Aunt Li, and Aunt Zhang came together, each carrying something: a bag of sunflower seeds, a dish of pickled vegetables, and a few boiled eggs.
The small courtyard quickly became lively.
Bai Rongbei finished cooking the last dish of stir-fried spinach, wiped his hands, and said to everyone, "The dishes are all ready, please sit down."
In the center of the courtyard, two square tables borrowed from the neighbors were placed together, and a circle of stools were arranged around them.
The table was laden with food: braised pork belly, sweet and sour pork ribs, stewed fish, stir-fried pork liver, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, cabbage and tofu, cucumber salad, stir-fried spinach...
In the middle is a large plate of white steamed buns and a pot of steaming millet porridge.
"Wow, this is such a feast!" Zhao Dayong rubbed his hands together. "Commander Bai, your cooking skills are impressive!"
Bai Rongbei didn't respond, but simply gestured for everyone to start eating.
After everyone took their seats, Bai Rongbei opened a bottle of baijiu and poured some for the men.
Lin Weiwei sat next to Su Wanwan. Her ankle no longer hurt, but Su Wanwan still insisted that she move less and put a piece of pork rib in her bowl: "Eat more and replenish yourself."
"You eat too." Lin Weiwei picked up a piece of braised pork for her.
Bai Si'an sat on Lin Weiwei's other side, eating quietly and occasionally putting some food on her plate.
After a few rounds of drinks, the atmosphere became even more lively.
Bai Rongbei stood up, raising his glass: "Today's meal is twofold: first, to celebrate Wanwan joining the performing arts troupe, and second, to thank everyone for their great help in fixing the toilets last time! I toast you all!"
