Chapter 44 Heart Knot
Chapter 44 Heart Knot
"Okay, that's about enough."
Noah finished what she was doing and slowly stood up. It seemed the treatment was over.
"Take a good rest these next few days and avoid fighting or training."
Lingbo sat up in bed and casually stretched her body. The tearing sensation from the depths of her soul had disappeared, leaving only a faint sense of weariness.
Although her injuries had healed, the sheer volume of information from those conversations still left Lingbo disoriented and her mind in turmoil.
Normally, even if she knew Lu Yue's hidden identity beneath her daily life, she would be shocked and bewildered, but not so depressed and conflicted as she is now.
What's important is Noah's attitude; it's obvious that her older sister is hiding some huge secret.
The more curious I am about this, the more eager I become.
"If my attitude towards Lu Yue has caused you to have any prejudice against your sister, then I apologize in advance."
Noah seemed to see through Lingbo's thoughts. "You've seen my attitude and know about her mind-reading ability, so it's natural for you to have all sorts of guesses. That's only human nature."
"However, as I mentioned before, she only used hypnosis on you once, to guide you away from delving into her magical girl identity. Apart from that, she never used hypnosis on you again."
"So," Noah's tone softened slightly, "all your current understanding of your older sister 'Lu Yue,' those warm and reliable memories, are real. Her feelings for you were completely genuine. And—"
Noah's gaze wasn't on Lingbo, but rather turned to the side.
"If you were on your timeline, you would never have experienced the twists and turns I went through... and knowing too much is not a good thing for you right now."
Lingbo raised her head, her equally deep red eyes displaying an emotion completely different from Noah's.
"It's too difficult to be completely indifferent," Lingbo muttered to herself.
Then, Lingbo took a deep breath, and her body glowed with white light. When the light faded, the petite silver-haired loli disappeared, replaced by college student Shen Zixin.
He got out of bed and tidied his clothes a little.
"It's almost noon," Shen Zixin's voice remained as steady as ever. "What would you like to eat?"
"..."
Noah did not answer immediately, but just looked at him silently.
"Hmm? What's wrong?" Shen Zixin was a little taken aback by Noah's sudden silence.
"I think what you should do right now is talk to Lu Yue alone. How about... having lunch with her alone today?"
Noah suggested.
"...What do you mean?"
Ultimately, this is also my problem.
Noah crossed her arms. "I also bear some responsibility for what happened today. If you don't clear up your grudges this time, this invisible barrier will continue to erode your relationship. That will definitely not be a good thing for you."
"...So what should we talk about?"
"We can talk about anything you're curious about, such as her identity as a magical girl, and some information she knew about you from your childhood. You've also vaguely sensed that 'that' place where you spent your childhood is related to magical girls."
After saying that, Noah took out her phone and started swiping on it, seemingly sending a message to someone.
"After talking to her, many of your doubts will be dispelled. Just don't talk to her about me being a 'person from the future.' She definitely knows nothing about my timeline, so asking won't help."
"As for Xiaoling... I'll take her out for lunch. Just cook a few simple dishes at home, have a drink with Lu Yue, and have a good talk."
Noah looked down at her phone while sending a message, speaking without looking up.
"My older sister... isn't coming home for lunch again..."
"Just give her a call and tell her to come back at noon. Be firm, and she'll agree."
Shen Zixin remained silent and did not respond immediately.
He understood Noah's intention.
Deep down, he also felt that this frank conversation with his older sister was indeed necessary. Those lingering questions in his mind, if left unanswered, would eventually become intractable knots in his heart.
Noah stopped what she was doing, seemingly having finished sending the message. She stretched, "Well then, I'll go pick Xiaoling up from school first. You and Lu Yue can stay at home... have a good chat."
After saying that, Noah turned around and left the bedroom cleanly and neatly.
Shen Zixin hesitated for a moment.
He took a deep breath and finally took out his phone to call his older sister.
The phone beeped a few times before being answered.
"Hey? Little brother, what's up?" His sister's familiar voice came, just like always.
"…Sis, can you come home for lunch?"
"Hmm? What happened at home?" Lu Yue's tone immediately became alert, as if she thought something had happened at home.
"No. Nothing's wrong at home." Shen Zixin paused, her voice unconsciously becoming more serious. "It's just... I have something I want to tell you in person."
He took a deep breath and added, "It's a very important matter."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone.
A few seconds later, Lu Yue's voice rang out again—
"Why are you suddenly so serious... You're making me nervous." Her sister's tone was relaxed and gentle, but to Shen Zixin, there seemed to be a hint of nervousness beneath it.
Shen Zixin didn't reply, but simply waited quietly for her answer.
This actually puts invisible pressure on the other party.
"...Okay. I'll be back." Lu Yue maintained a relaxed tone. "Why are you being so mysterious? I'll hang up now, see you at noon."
The call ended, and a busy tone came from the phone.
Shen Zixin, however, did not feel relieved. He knew very well that some knots had to be untied by himself.
Shen Zixin also left the bedroom and went to the kitchen, where she began to consider what to make for lunch.
He opened the refrigerator and checked the available ingredients.
The neatly arranged cans of beer on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator caught his eye. Although Noah said she could "have a drink" with her older sister, that guy could only drink beer.
Is it okay for her to drink ice-cold beer at this time of month? Never mind, I'll ask her when she gets home.
Since the main purpose is to drink, there's no need to cook rice. Just make a few dishes to go with the drinks. Stir-fry some crispy pork, add braised beef and cauliflower, and finally pan-fry some pork belly. That should be about right.
The cup... never mind, my older sister just drinks straight from the can.
Then, Shen Zixin began preparing lunch.
